Press Release - New Corporate Facilities Launched at Solent Airport at Daedalus

24 March 2017

Solent Airport at Daedalus, has held an open day to showcase its new corporate facilities to existing and potential clients

The new facilities comprise a dedicated passenger and crew lounge, with complimentary refreshments and beverages, plus dedicated apron parking, all without the usual congestion experienced at other airports.

Solent Airport's team can provide weather briefings and local information to aid their clients, as well as offer special rates for catering, chauffeur-driven cars, refuelling and corporate hotels. Martyn Francis, manager of Solent Airport at Daedalus says: "This is an exciting episode in the development of Solent Airport. Our decision to establish ourselves as a dedicated Fixed Base Operator (FBO) airport came following in-depth research of the opportunities and demands of this sector.

"We've seen natural growth at the airport for some time and decided the time was right as part of Fareham Borough Council's on-going investment plan to create a new FBO centre. Our aim is to position Solent as the airport of choice for corporate clients wishing to use the south of England as their gateway to the rest of the UK."

Becoming a dedicated facility for corporate and business jets may seem like a risky venture, so it is important to have the right advice and assistance to ensure everything goes to plan. Chris Beer, head of XLR Corporate Centres, says: "We are delighted to have been able to support Solent Airport with such a project.

"We knew from the outset the proposal to make Solent a dedicated corporate aircraft base was the right decision. It provides a gateway to the south of England, making it an ideal location for so many corporate and general aviation users. Its future is very bright."

The new corporate facilities are the latest addition to an airport that has seen a 20% increase in flight movements whilst, on the ground, new infrastructure includes a new road completed within the last few weeks.

Cllr Seán Woodward, Leader of Fareham Borough Council which owns the airport added: "These are exciting times for the airport and we have a programme of works planned that will add to the offer here such as hangarage, permanent fuelling facilities, runway lighting, navigational aids and improvements to the control tower visitor facilities. This year is a very special year for the airport as it marks its centenary and there will be an opportunity for local residents to have a good look at what has been happening later in the year when we mark the occasion."
