Fareham and the Solent – A thriving location for business
Located in a county of contrasts, boasting miles of coastline, two major ports, and served by key domestic and international air routes, the Solent area of Hampshire benefits from impeccable connections in every sense of the word.
Backed by its Enterprise Zone status, Daedalus is the largest employment site in the area and is therefore set to become the premier location for aviation, aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing businesses in the south. Businesses based at the Solent Airport Enterprise Zone benefit from an environment with a location close to the waterfront, proximity to the area’s major road connections and the recently opened QEII Platinum Jubilee Park – a public open space that includes picnic areas and walkways.
Enterprise Zone status brings numerous benefits including a significant package of transport infrastructure both on-site and for the surrounding road networks. Seven of the top ten global aerospace companies have already staked their claim in the Solent region and this brings with it employees with all the key skills but without the cost of London-weighted salaries.
Hampshire County
Home to more than 25 marinas, a world-renowned University, the Southampton Boat Show and the Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire is a natural home for the marine sector and contains more than 3,000 marine and maritime companies. Manufacturing is vital to the area and represents almost 13% of all jobs – that’s 2% above the national average. There are over 14,000 manufacturing jobs in machine manufacturing and engineering activities.
Crucially, Hampshire is also well-connected in terms of accessibility and travelling further afield. Daedalus lies approximately 70 miles and 90 minutes from London, and within easy reach of the South’s principal motorways: M27, M3 and A3(M). Fareham train station lies four miles from the site.
